Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair / Flow it, show it / Long as God can grow it

1) Do you like your hair?  I am fine with my hair. I wish it had less gray at the moment. Less gray without me having to dye it.

2) Have you ever colored your hair? Oh, Iused to dye my hair all the time. Back in the 80s I had one of those asymetrical cuts and a tail (remember tails?). I sometimes bleached a section of my hair in the front and the tail, and sometimes I dyed them pink or blue. I tried bleaching my hair once—it came out the color of butterscotch pudding. I was okay with that. I dyed my hair blue-black quite a few times—really got into the goth look. And then there’s red, which until I started getting quite a bit of gray, was my dye color of choice.

3) What's the longest you've ever worn your hair? The shortest? The longest would have been mid-back, way back in my childhood days. I frequently wore it in braids then. Sometime in my mid twenties I started getting it cut about as short as a guy’s. Those were the flannel shirt years.

4) When and what was your worst. haircut. ever? In sixth grade I got a Toni Tenille haircut.  Say no more. Then in my teens I got my hair cut short and permed. I think I looked a bit like a mad poodle.

5) Tell us a favorite song or scene from a book or movie dealing with hair. How dull I am. I really like the movie of the musical Hair, and I like that song about, well, hair: “My hair like Jesus wore it / Hallelujah I adore it”.  Also at the top of my list is the part in Little Women where Jo gets all her hair cut off and sells it. I thought she was so noble. I suppose I could be spiritual and pick the scene of the woman drying Jesus’ feet with her hair, but I just have to face the fact that the Bible is not the first thing that comes to mind.

  2. Girl, you absolutely crack me up. I was following you in the FFMB and your comments always make me giggle. Love the hair post. I always loved Jo cutting her hair in Little Women too.

My daughter has very long hair and in a chuch pagent was the woman who wiped Jesus feet with her hair. (The particular Jesus that year) was a big joker so when Suzy went to wipe his feet the soles were absolutely Black much to her horror!

  3. Hair, hair, hair....The longest I've had mine was below my shoulders. Now, I've been having mine short. It's easier to manage and with the gray on it, it doesn't look as bad as when it's long. Dye my hair sometimes but not too often as I have allergies.

  4. I used to have long hair when I was a child but it always became tangled. My Mom got tired of trying to get the knots out and had my hair cut.
In pictures of myself with my sister, there is me with cropped hair while she sat beautifully with her long tresses.

  5. Bad Alice,

This has nothing to do with hair but I was wondering if you had a hamantaschen recipe that you could share....

  6. Lorraine, My mother-in-law gave me the gift of a Jewish cookbook, which I haven't cracked. I'm not much of a cook. I like baking but I haven't attempted hamentaschen. My favorites are the poppy seed ones, which means I have to track down someplace to buy them in bulk. That alone is enough to deter me. I miss the little Hungarian coffee shop on Amsterdam in NYC, where you could get excellent poppy seed hamentaschen, linzer tortes, rugelach, and black and whites.

  7. Bad Alice, Guess I better just hope that I get "paid" in hamantaschen tomorrow night, eh?

  8. Seems quite a few of us picked "Hair" for our song. And I didn't even think of the woman with long hair. At least you thought of her in the list someshere. Hee hee!

  9. Hair is great, especially as a woman. I went through a horrid phase as a teenager where I had the shortest hair! YUK! Now, as I grow older (38!), I feel more like a woman, with silver hairs all blending in beautifully. I have has temporary dyes but thankfully with my tough hair they wash out quickly and it's back to 'me' again! I have black hair, brown hair, blonde hair, coppery hair and silver hair all mixed in (Dad being Indian and Mum Finnish - good mix). And it's thick like a good Indian gal! I love my hair (though there's a LOT of it, and I have to wash it daily...) Now, shampoo - that's another story!
